Fans think Nicola Coughlan could be Doctor Who star Ncuti Gatwa's sidekick

Doctor Who fans think they've sussed who the new doc Ncuti Gatwa's companion is going to be — and it's none other than Nicola Coughlan.

Sex Education star Ncuti is set to take over from Jodie Whittaker as the 14th lead and sofa detectives are sure they've clocked it's Coughlan.

Sharing a picture on his Instagram Story at the Baftas with Bridgerton's Nicola, the actor captioned it: "A pair of dolls."

Whovians commented: "I’m thinking this could possibly mean Nicola Coughlan is THE 14th Doctor’s Companion?"

A second added: "That could be sooooo cool omg I love Nicola so much."

A third penned: "Can we please get Nicola Coughlan for the new companion?"

"Okay but what if Nicola and Ncuti in Doctor Who," one fan asked.

One exclaimed: "Not to be dramatic but I will DIE if Nicola is 14's companion! She would be incredible!"

Another penned: "PLEASE PLEASE PLEASE PLEASE PLEASE. It would be AMAZING."

"NICOLA COUGHLAN COMPANION???" one begged.

Ncuti said in a statement about his new role: "There aren’t quite the words to describe how I’m feeling. A mix of deeply honoured, beyond excited and of course a little bit scared.

"This role and show means so much to so many around the world, including myself, and each one of my incredibly talented predecessors has handled that unique responsibility and privilege with the utmost care.

"I will endeavour my upmost to do the same."
