It has been announced today (5th July) that the third series of the sitcom will feature Inside No. 9 and Taskmaster star, Steve Pemberton, as well as Ben Willbond, who played The Captain in Ghosts.

Sharon Rooney, who played Lawyer Barbie in the hit movie and also featured in Two Doors Down, will also be in the new series, as will Conleth Hill, who was Varys in fantasy drama, Game of Thrones.

Derek Griffiths from Unforgotten (and Play School, if you’re of a certain vintage) also appears, as does Philippa Dunne from Motherland, Chaneil Kular from Sex Education and Killing Eve’s Gemma Whelan.

Written by and starring Greg Davies, The Cleaner follows state-certified cleaning technician Wicky as he removes any signs of death from various crime scenes.

Zita Sattar will reprise her role as PS Ruth Edwards.

Armed with chemicals, scrubbing brushes and cleaning rags, Wicky removes the gruesome messes and, when carrying out his duties, always stumbles across the strangest of people.

These include the victims’ relatives, employers, neighbours and acquaintances, and even the murderers themselves sometimes.

The Cleaner Series 3 cast will also feature Harry Peacock (Toast of London), Paula Wilcox (Coronation Street), Rebekah Staton (Doctor Who), Rosie Cavaliero (The Power of Parker), Sheila Reid (Benidorm), Sophia Dall’Aglio (So Awkward), Vicki Pepperdine (Getting On) and Viraj Juneja (Horrible Histories).

Greg Davies said in a statement: “I am so delighted to be back wading around in blood. We have made sure that Wicky has some bizarre characters to deal with this series. Looking forward to sweating in a scene of crime suit and wearing the earring that my nieces find so cringe.”

The new series will be made up of six half-hour episodes. At this stage, no release date has been announced.

The Cleaner Series 1 and 2 is available on BBC iPlayer.
