White Lotus actor F. Murray Abraham has gone viral online after a fan showed his sweet reaction to being cheered while on the Golden Globes red carpet.

The star, who plays Bert Di Grasso in the popular US comedy-drama, was up for the Best Supporting Actor in a Limited Series prize, but lost out to Paul Walter Hauser in Black Bird.

Despite his loss on Golden Globes night (Tuesday 10th January), Abraham fans rallied around the veteran actor after a TikTok user called @glutenfreetravelgirl shared the moment he noticed the crowd watching the stars arrive on the red carpet were cheering just for him.

The video was shared once more on Twitter by Tom Augustine, who captioned the video: “This should be happening everywhere he goes tbh.”

In the 26-second clip, Abraham can be seen arriving to the star-studded event, seemingly unaware that the crowd of people to his left were clapping and yelling for him.

Upon noticing his fans waving and cheering, Abraham flashes a huge smile their way, before starting to clap for them.

He then blows an appreciative kiss towards the audience, before throwing some suave poses in his navy-blue tuxedo, much to the delight of the whooping crowd.

It seems the love for Abraham doesn’t stop at the video, with many fans commenting their own heartwarming stories about the Oscar winner.

One replied: “One time I was on the subway in NYC, and I realized that he was sitting across from me. I said hello, and that I really enjoyed his work. He lit up, stuck out his hand, and said, “Murray.” I shook it, and said, “Ned.” And we were pals for another minute or so until my stop.”

Another commented: “Love this. He is such a kind man. I've met him several times at events, and once waited at a stage door in London to say hi in hopes he remembered me. He did, we wound up walking thru London for a bit chatting. A truly gracious gent.”

A third said: “That man is such a legend ! It’s crazy he’s shocked by cheers, he should be cheered everywhere!”

While many fans know him as the womanising father of Michael Imperioli’s Dominic on White Lotus, Abraham started his acting career fifty-five years ago on Broadway, before making the leap to movies and TV.

He won an Academy Award for his role in Amadeus in 1984, and earned three SAG prizes alongside the cast of Homeland and The Grand Budapest Hotel.

On Golden Globes night, The White Lotus picked up two of their five nominations, one for Best Limited Series, and Best Supporting Actress for Jennifer Coolidge.
