EastEnders has raised its glass to the Lionesses’ prolific Euro 2022 final win at Wembley and paid tribute to their success against Germany over the weekend. The residents of Albert Square toasted the victorious team during Monday's episode after England made history by winning their first major football tournament since 1966.

Beating eight-time winners Germany, the women's English football team secured the first-ever European Championship victory since the 1966 World Cup and the BBC One soap celebrated the stunning sports news in The Queen Vic. Kim Fox (Tameka Empson) chatted about the historic match with landlady Linda Carter (Kellie Bright) and Lola Pearce (Danielle Harold), and commanded a 'cheers' in honour of the Lionesses.

Celebrating the news in the iconic pub, a group of women could be seen dressed in England football kits and waving England flags, while Kim exclaimed: "Mate, it came home! Finally!"

A curious Linda inquired if she was an avid women's football fan to which she responded she was 'when it comes to strong winning women’.

"This has changed everything," she added. "The game. Women in sports everywhere. Pearl watched it and loved it. Every single one of them is a role model, I’m telling you. If you can see it, you can be it!"

EastEnders and football fans praised: "Love when it’s topical, c’mon The Lionesses."

Another added: "Loved this tribute to the Lionesses."

A third wrote: "#EastEnders doing a well deserved @Lionesses nod in tonight’s episode."
