Cinema chain gives red-haired people free tickets in heatwave

As temperatures soar towards the high 30s, we’re all trying to avoid being outdoors for too long and are instead seeking out places with decent air-conditioning, aren’t we?

If the idea of a lovely sit down, a couple of hours’ entertainment and some sweet, sweet air-con appeals to you, then you’ve likely already considered heading along to your local cinema as a way of escaping the heatwave that is gripping the UK at the moment.

Well, if you happen to be red of hair, then there is even more reason to pop along to check out a movie at the flicks, because one cinema chain is offering free tickets to redheads.

With redheads often more vulnerable than most to the sun’s rays, this Monday and Tuesday (18th and 19th July), when the weather is forecast to be at its hottest, Showcase Cinemas are offering some respite by giving red-haired people free entry to any of their cinemas across the UK.

Showcase Cinemas UK shared the news on Twitter, writing: “You're gonna want to let your redheaded friends know about this.”

Mark Barlow, Showcase Cinemas’ UK general manager, said: “While the UK enjoys some much-needed sunny weather, we know how hard some people find the heat.

“That’s why, to tackle the heatwave, we’re offering redheads free entry to our cinema screens this Monday and Tuesday, so they’ll be able to enjoy some of the amazing films on offer in the comfort of our air-conditioned cinema screens and ensure they stay protected from the sun.”

If you are able to take advantage of this offer, then one ticket will be available per day, per redhead. 

However, if you’re stuck at home without the luxury of air-con, then you should at least make sure you’re getting the most out of your fan and that you are staying hydrated.

And if you simply can’t avoid being out in the sun, then make sure you apply sunscreen, and look out for this symbol before applying it.
