Doctor Who boss Chris Chibnall has sent chills through the veins of fans with talk of the return of classic monsters the Sea Devils in the Easter special.

This will be the first time the 1970s monsters - who are cousins of classic monsters the Silurians - are making their return.

Chris Chibnall told the Doctor Who Magazine (via The Radio Times) about how Madame Ching's (Casualty's Crystal Yu) search for the treasure ship will mark the Sea Devils re-appearance.

"In our story, Madam Ching is on a mission to track down the lost treasure of the Flor de la Mar, a ship that may have been washed up in the waters around the area where we start the story," the writer explained.

"She unleashes a terrifying evil that The Doctor has to help everyone deal with."

From the brains behind Chibnall, Ella Road (Call My Agent!) and director Haolu Wang, Road said: "She features in lots of stories throughout history, but her actual character is quite slippery and hard to pin down."

Doctor Who's Legend of the Sea Devils premieres on April 17 on BBC One.
