Remember when Spider-Man: No Way Home beat Titanic after breaking the $660 million mark? Well according to Benedict Cumberbatch, we could see the next Doctor Strange movie do the very same thing.
Doctor Strange in the Multiverse of Madness will see the return of the cloaked superhero as he deals with not one, but several portals to different universes following the dramatic end to the last Spider-Man film.
It’ll be one of the most expansive and creative Marvel movies to date, and with the incredible success of the previous Spider-Man adventure, Steven Strange star Benedict has high hopes for his next outing.
In an interview with Empire, Benedict said of the upcoming film: “It’s going to be an absolute riot. And if it brings off the level of ambition it’s got, we’re going to have a success on the level of Spidey. There you go, I’ll put my flag in the sand.”
With the hefty prediction came some reflection on the Master of the Mystic Arts, and where this new film will take the beloved character.
Benedict added: “Strange is almost a stranger to himself before this film unfolds and reveals what, essentially, is in his nature, that he then has to either confront or resist or fall into or become.
“There are some very bold ideas, and some extraordinary tests of Strange and encounters. There are some very unexpected conclusions.”
Directed by Sam Raimi, Doctor Strange and the Multiverse of Madness sees Doctor Strange waking up from a nightmare and dealing with the fallout of his spell in Spider-Man: No Way Home, which opened up the multiverse and caused a whole lot of trouble.
Doctor Strange and the Multiverse of Madness will also see the return of Benedict Wong's character Wong, Chiwetel Ejiofor as Mordo, and Christine Palmer played by Rachel McAdams. We are also introduced to Xochitl Gomez as America Chavez and Michael Stuhlbarg’s Dr. Nicodemus West.
Doctor Strange in the Multiverse of Madness will hit cinemas on 6th May.
