Sonic the Hedgehog is back for a new adventure, and the live-action movie sequel features Idris Elba, alongside the returning cast of Ben Schwartz, James Marsden, and Jim Carrey.

If everyone’s favourite super-speedy hedgehog thought that he’d got rid of Dr. Robotnik in the last movie, then he was very much mistaken, as the second film in the series sees Sonic (Schwartz) and his mate Tom (Marsden) once again having to deal with the baddie (Carrey), who is searching for an emerald that has the ability to wipe out whole civilisations. And this time, the antagonist has got an accomplice, in the form of Knuckles the echidna (Elba).

Sonic, meanwhile, teams up with his own sidekick, Tails (Colleen O'Shuaghnessey), in attempting to beat Dr. Robotnik and Knuckles to the emerald.

Tika Sumpter, Natasha Rothwell, Adam Pally and Lee Majdoub all return for Sonic’s second outing, alongside newbie Shemar Moore. The movie is directed by Jeff Fowler.

Along with the final trailer for the film, a brand new poster has dropped, and it’s one that might stir some memories for anyone who used to play the corresponding Sega game back in the day.

The artwork pays homage to the Sonic 2 game on the Mega Drive, in that it bears a striking resemblance to the box in which the game came.

Whilst the above poster reveals the US release date as April 8th, the film actually lands in UK cinemas one week earlier, on April 1st.

Whilst the new movie isn’t even out yet, it has already been confirmed that a third Sonic film is in the works, and will likely land in 2024.

Sonic the Hedgehog 2 hits cinemas across the UK and Ireland on April 1st, 2022.
