Viewers were left on the edge of their seats after last week’s cliffhanger episode.

Warning, potential spoilers ahead.

After the latest episode aired on Sunday night, fans of Call the Midwife were left on one heck of a cliffhanger and desperate to know the fate of two beloved characters, Dr. Turner and Sister Julienne.

First look images from the next episode may hint at what is to come.

As reported by Hello! magazine, in one of the photos, Patrick’s son Tim can be seen in a white coat on the site of the crash, presumably looking for his father and Sister Julienne.

In another image, the two characters are photographed being carried unconscious out of the wreckage on stretchers.

Could this confirm the worst?

On top of that, the synopsis for the final episode reads: “Nonnatus House faces its darkest day after a tragic incident in the heart of Poplar.

“As the community rallies together, the team must overcome personal anguish to help the injured.”

That doesn’t sound too promising either!

Viewers of the hit TV series have already had to say goodbye to another beloved member of the Nonnatus House team when nurse Trixie Franklin (Helen George) left to go to Italy and care for her godmother.

Of course, fans would be devasted by the death of Dr. Turner and Sister Julienne, but it’s not something writer of the show Heidi Thomas has ruled out.

When asked in an interview for Radio Times whether she would dare kill off such beloved characters, she replied: “I’m a very daring woman.”

She added: “The thing is, if there was a train crash near where you live, in the world of Call the Midwife, the two people you could rely on to come and sort everything out are Dr Turner and Sister Julienne. But if they are in the eye of the storm, who will save them?”

We cannot cope with the suspense.

Call the Midwife continues on 20 February at 6:40pm on BBC One and iPlayer.
