ITV has revealed a first look trailer at the highly anticipated season two of their hit crime thriller series, Trigger Point.

The short trailer reveals a new season “coming soon” and confirms the return of Vicky McClure as police bomb disposal expert Lana Washington. Throughout the trailer, we can see a device counting down from 30 as Vicky’s character urges someone: “Don’t move an inch!”

It’s coming up to two years since the first season of Trigger Point aired on ITV, and filming on the latest instalment started in March this year and while ITV previously promised fans could expect season two this year, it’s more likely we’ll get it at the beginning of 2024.

As confirmed in the trailer, Line of Duty star Vicky McClure will be returning alongside Nabil Elouahabi as Hass, Eric Shango as Danny, Mark Stanley as DI Thom Youngblood, Kerry Godliman as Sonya Reeves, Kris Hitchen as John and Kevin Eldon as Jeff.

New cast members joining for season two include Outlander’s Natalie Simpson as DS Helen Morgan, Bridgerton’s Julian Ovenden as Commander John Francis and Tomiwa Edun as Alex.

Season one followed the trials and tribulations of the Metropolitan Police Bomb Disposal Squad and saw a terrorist campaign threaten the capital city over the summer, leading Lana and her team on a deadly mission to discover who was behind the bombings before it was too late.

Details about the plot of season two have been kept very quiet, and this new trailer doesn’t give too much away, either. We know there will be six episodes, and ITV recently teased: "In episode 1, Lana is just back from secondment training Ukrainian bomb disposal teams but has not returned to active duty.

"She is giving a routine talk to security officers from major financial institutions about the issues surrounding bomb-centred terrorism when there is a bomb attack in the heart of the city. Lana is closest to the incident, but is she ready to take it on?"

Leading actress Vicky has also remained tight-lipped on the new season but, speaking to virginradio.co.uk on the BAFTA red carpet in May this year, revealed filming for the new season was going “brilliantly.”

She added: “[It’s] exhaustingly good, which means I’m putting my all into it.”
