James Lance visited Chris Evans in the Virgin Radio studio and opened up about all things Ted Lasso.
The actor - who will soon star in the BBC’s feature length Famous Five adaptation - was full of stories about the “amazing ride” which has followed his first appearance in the football focused programme in 2020.
“From the first time I read the script to the pilot, I knew that there was something special in this, [but] I had no idea it was going to be this global juggernaut that it has become,” James revealed during his appearance on The Chris Evans Breakfast Show with cinch.
“Also I really didn’t realise the effect it would have on people. And that has been the most exciting part of it,” he continued. “I really believe in the healing power of comedy, I do, and to be in a show that makes people feel so good and actually changes their lives is an extraordinary feeling.
“I was walking down the street in London the other day and a guy grabbed my arm - quite strongly! - and said ‘I gotta thank you,’” the actor shared. “And I said ‘Really? Well, thanks,’ and he said: ‘No, seriously. I need to thank you and everybody on the show, because I’ve watched every single episode of this with my son, and this changed our relationship.’”
The experience moved James, who could see that the man who'd stopped him in the street was very emotional about the positive affect of the programme.
Speaking again about the comedy later on the show, James opened up about why he believes the series was able to have such an impact on others. “What comes from the heart goes to the heart,” he reflected, and agreed with Chris that Ted Lasso most certainly comes from the heart.
James also spoke briefly with Chris about his appearance on fellow Ted Lasso star Hannah Waddingham’s Apple TV+ festive special show, Hannah Waddingham: Home for Christmas.
“Aren’t we lucky to be on the planet at the same time as her,” he praised. He also admitted he'd had fun dancing with her and other members of the Ted Lasso cast in the episode, despite it also being quite a “nerve racking” experience.
The Famous Five will air on CBBC and BBC iPlayer on Saturday, 9th December, at 5.25pm and on BBC One at 11.30am on New Year’s Eve. Ted Lasso is available to stream now on Apple TV+.
