The actor joined the Chris Evans Breakfast Show with Sky this morning to talk about his new film, Save the Cinema, and revealed what he and fellow cast members got up to in between takes on the Harry Potter set.
Tom is, of course, best known for his acting career and his role as Draco Malfoy in the Harry Potter films- but he’s also something of a musician.
Last year, with more time on his hands, he even wrote and recorded some original songs that he later posted on Spotify.
It seems this love of music began much earlier, however, as Tom told Chris how he and fellow cast members would record their own tunes on the set of Harry Potter.
He said: “In between scenes when we were shooting ‘Potter’, we had a little setup in my dressing room where we used to record stuff.
“It was mostly, at that stage, ‘Surrey gangster rap’, if there is such a thing, and then it progressed into Jack Johnson, the Beatles and then to guitars and pianos and the rest of it.”
Apparently, other members of the cast got involved.
When asked who he would record his music with on set, Tom said: “Jamie and Josh, who play Crabbe and Goyle, who are like my two henchmen- we were the ones that were mucking around the most.
He added: “I think Emma had a little sing, and I think Rupert had a go.”
We don’t know about you, but we would love an album from the Harry Potter cast!
Tom was on the Chris Evans Show to talk about his latest movie, Save the Cinema, which is a true story about a fiery Welsh woman called Liz Evans and her fight to save the Lyric Theatre in Camarthen from closing.
With the help of their mayor, Richard Goodrich (Tom Felton), she manages to get Steven Spielberg to show a premier of ‘Jurassic Park’ at the theatre in an effort to save it.
Watch the trailer below:
Speaking about that part of the story, Tom said: “Without spilling too many beans. Liz ends up imploring to Steven Spielberg for her to have the Jurassic Park premiere in the Lyric, instead of Leicester Square, which is where it's actually happening. And of course, Steven said, ‘you can't do that’. But he ends up helping in one way or the other.
“It’s very hard to believe, that’s for sure. But it happened!”
For Tom, it was refreshing to play a role where he didn’t have to be the bad guy, and he described Richard Goodrich’s character as “about as opposite as a blonde evil wizard could be”- obviously alluding to his role as Draco Malfoy.
Chris asked whether the premier of Save the Cinema was going to take place in the Lyric Theatre, but Tom said covid restrictions meant it couldn’t be done.
He explained: “We were really, really hoping to do that. That was big on our list. Sadly, because of everything going on right now, it wasn't to be.”

Save the Cinema premieres on Sky Cinema today (14 January).
