Paul Weller has organised a special charity gig in London to celebrate the 90th birthday of legendary artist Peter Blake.

Blake is probably best known for designing the iconic cover art of The Beatles’ 1967 album Sgt. Pepper’s Lonely Hearts Club Band. He celebrated his birthday in June this year but will be honoured at the event, which takes place in December.

Weller will also be performing and has brought some other music legends onboard for the evening, which will take place at the Royal Festival Hall in London on 2nd December. The lineup includes the likes of Noel Gallagher, Madness, The Who’s Roger Daltrey, Baxter Dury and Chrissie Hynde.

In a statement about the concert, Weller said: “We’re coming to celebrate this brilliant artist who has given us all so much for over 70 years! Thank you Peter!”

All proceeds from the event will be split between Graeae Theatre Company and Teenage Cancer Trust.

Graeae’s artist director, Jenny Sealey MBE, said: “Peter Blake is a legendary part of Graeae as a patron, an artist and the kindest person ever. He has twinkly eyes but stands for no nonsense, ever the radical maverick we hold close to our hearts. Happy Birthday Peter and so much love from your Graeae family.”

Tickets for the event will go on general sale from 9am BST on Friday 21st October, and you can find out more information here.

Some of Blake’s more recent work includes a mural he painted for London’s Royal Albert Hall back in 2014. Created in the style of the Sgt. Pepper’s album cover, the mural is a montage of more than 400 stars who had performed at the iconic venue since its opening in 1871.

Included in the painting are the likes of David Bowie, Adele, Morrissey, Jimi Hendrix and Iggy Pop.
