English singer-songwriter, multi-instrumentalist and producer Alfie Templeman joined the Chris Evans Breakfast Show with Sky to play a live session from the top of the tower. Check out the videos below, including an exclusive live recording of Happiness In Liquid Form, which was not aired on the show.

Alfie has recently announced his debut album, Mellow Moon, which will be released on Friday 27th May. He told Chris about how he first got into music: “I listened to a lot of Rush growing up. That’s what kick-started me into making music. I loved Neil Peart, his drumming, so I took that upon myself, started playing drums and then just taught myself everything else."

He added: “I’d normally just produce most of my own recordings, but on the new album there’s bits of pieces of other people, but for the most part, it’s still me playing all the stuff.”

Alfie was joined in the live session by regular bandmates Cam Owden on bass, Jos Shepherd on guitar, and Adam Daisley on drums. “We’ve been playing together for nearly three years now,” he explained.

The session opened with an amazing cover of The Beatles’ Taxman, written by George Harrison, and taken from The Fab Four’s 1966 album, Revolver.

Alfie explained to Chris how he got discovered by a record label after posting a song online, saying: “It was through Spotify actually. So, I put my song up on a Friday, just because that’s when songs get added to playlists. It was called Like an Animal. It was from three or four years ago. And then my label, Chess Club, found it on this playlist. It just randomly came up. They clicked on it and they were like, ‘Wow, [we] like this a lot.’

“So they hit me up when I was 15, and I was like, ‘Oh god, I feel a bit young to be doing this,’ but then I was like, ‘It’s all I’ve ever really wanted to do’, so I just said, ‘Yeah!’”

When Chris asked Alfie how it was possible to stay focused on school when he had a blossoming music career, the musician joked: “You don’t focus! I’m surprised I even got any GCSEs to be honest!”

Alfie played his latest single, Broken, which was inspired by Radiohead and Nile Rodgers.

The musician will be embarking on an 18-date UK and European tour, starting on the 2nd March in Newcastle, and he will also be playing at this year’s Tramlines Festival in Sheffield, as well as Are You Listening? Festival on 7th May in Reading.

“We’re ready for it!” Alfie told Chris.

Within their set for Virgin Radio was 3D Feelings, the first single from Mellow Moon. The song was produced by The Vaccines’ frontman Justin Young.
