Many of us are cutting back where possible, and these tips and tricks from a chef can help to improve the shelf life of many of the common foods we buy.
Chef Alison Mountford regularly shares tips on TikTok as a food waste expert.
More than 36,000 followers use her tips to make food last longer.
She can help you to revive even food that looks slimy or mouldy.
In one video, Alison takes a cabbage that looks like it has gone bad, but peels off the outside layers and cuts off the bad bits.

She then created a meal with the "fresh and delicious" cabbage by adding spice mix, roasting, and added breadcrumbs.
"Cabbage lasts forever and it's so good," the chef said. "We only wasted a few leaves instead of an entire head."
She also took a zucchini that had seen better days and fixed it.
Alison peels the skin off before slicing it into small pieces to roast in the oven.
"By the time I washed it off and cut it into coins, it was beautiful on the inside!"
One of her more controversial ideas involves eating whole strawberries.
"Do you know the low-waste way to eat strawberries?" she asked, before popping the whole thing in and chewing.
"If the greens are young and fresh go for it!" she captioned.

"If they’re older or this just doesn’t make any sense to you just pluck them off with your fingers, no need to lop off a quarter of the fruit!!"
For apples, Alison recommends using them for baking and in pies or making chips out of them.
"I'm a chef who helps people reduce their household food waste either to save money or save the planet or just because throwing food away feels good," the chef has explained.
