They're the retro treat that will take you back to childhood.

One fan has discovered a hidden secret in the chocolate eggs.

We all knew that there were toys or treats inside each Kinder Egg, but it turns out there's something else to enjoy.

You can bring the toy to life in a virtual reality world. How's that for futuristic?

It uses an app called Applaydu. Once downloaded, open it up and tap on the camera icon.

Next, scan the QR code found inside your Kinder Egg.

Mum Vicky Tapp shared her discovery on Facebook.

She wrote excitedly: "For people that buy your kids Kinder Eggs [there's] an app that comes with them so when your kid gets animals you can scan them and they come to life in your home."

A virtual reality version of the plastic toy appears in the app.

Tapp added: "My daughter had a Puma and she could see it under our table [and] running around our kitchen she can also feed it food and learn on the app about where it lives and other fun facts, making good use of the naff plastic toys they get inside."

Parents loved her discovery and vowed to find one.

Later, Vicky clarified that you need to be sure that you pick up a Kinder Egg that includes a sign saying "Applaydu" on the outside for it to work.

Kinder says Applaydu is the perfect "edutainment app for children between 4-9 years."

As well as featuring the virtual version of the toy, it also includes various mini games, augmented reality experiences, visual arts & crafts and more.

Kids can enjoy a storybook builder plus bedtime stories to read too.

The fun will last much longer than just the little toy inside.

What a bonus!
