If you happen to be travelling through Green Park tube station in London today, you might notice that it’s looking a little different than usual.

The busy underground hub has been given an Attenborough-themed makeover by BBC creative, transforming it into an immersive experience to celebrate the arrival of the new nature series, The Green Planet.

The temporary rebrand sees all platform signage changed to read Green Planet, instead of Green Park, while all of the poster spaces across the southbound Victoria line platform have been filled with dramatic images of the plants which are featured in the series.

The title of the project is Welcome to Their World, and there are also two digital screens showing the trailer from the five-part series, which landed on the BBC on Sunday 9th January.

Johnny Ace, design director at BBC Creative, said: “We looked to our favourite science fiction films for inspiration with these designs. Each poster focuses on a single plant species, and we’ve composed them like portraits of strange creatures from another world. Taking over a whole platform of Green Park station has been huge, and one of the most ambitious projects BBC Creative has ever undertaken.”

The new David Attenborough series sees ground-breaking camera technology exploring the world of plants. Last night’s first episode, called Tropical Worlds, showed different plants crammed together in tropical rainforests. Viewers witnessed the astonishing beauty and intense competition within the rainforest, from fast-growing trees to flowers that mimic dead animals.

You can watch episode one of The Green Planet on BBC One and BBC iPlayer now. Episode Two will air on Sunday 16th January.

In the meantime, commuters’ journeys through Green Park have certainly been made a little bit more interesting and beautiful.
