Whether it’s stamps, vinyl, action-figures, comic books, coins, wines, trading cards, or something more unusual, collecting things has always been a popular pastime. One man in the UK, however, has just started what we can confidently predict is an entirely unique collection.

Facebook user Boris Bennett has set himself the challenge of collecting a chip from every single Wetherspoon pub in the UK. He is so far nine chips deep into his mission, and has started to gather his collection in a plastic folder.

The chip connoisseur shared an image of his “trading cards collection book” on the Facebook group Wetherspoons paltry chip count, in which pub-goers tell other group members how many chips they get with their Wetherspoons meals.

Alongside the image of his collection, he told other members of the group that he had received “a healthy 38 chips in the Spinning Mule in Bolton this afternoon.”

He then went on to explain his new challenge. “I am currently on a mission to collect and record 1 chip from every Wetherspoons in Britain, and here is what I have got so far”, he wrote.

In the post, he added: “If you are wondering ‘does that bloke really walk around with a trading cards collection book full of chips?’ The answer is yes, yes I do."

The post, which landed on Facebook earlier this week (2nd November) has a whopping 12,000 likes, with over 4,000 people commenting, almost exclusively positively.

One person wrote: “This is absolutely exquisite work, good luck.”

Someone else said: “I think you could be my soul mate.”

Elsewhere, a Facebook user offered their advice as to how the collector can keep on top of his mission: “Definitely needs better organisation. Start with an alphabetised empty catalogue with the names of all of the 'Spoons and then fill them in as you acquire the chips.”

Another person had a helpful suggestion as well, saying: “Where do we send chips from our local Wetherspoons?! That could hasten your mission!! Perhaps a PO Box is in order???”

Meanwhile, another user had a grand idea for the collection, saying: “You should set them all in Resin Blocks, so they don't decay over time, with labels that say the locations, and dates of purchase, etc, inside the blocks too. Then when you've completed your mission, build a Wetherspoons Chip Wall from all the blocks, and when complete, sell it back to Wetherspoons Head Office, as a Modern Art Installation.”

Good luck with your collection Boris. Keep on chipping away at it!
