Christmas has come early for vegans, as Greggs has announced a plant-based version of the hugely popular festive bake.

It comes after they released vegan versions of their sausage roll, steak bake and sausage, cheese and bean melt.

The original festive bake launched back in 2009 and is now a Christmas staple for many fans.

Vegans have been asking for a plant-based Festive Bake for a few years now, and their wish has been answered.

In 2019 Twitter one twitter user promised “If we don’t get a vegan festive bake this year I might riot”.

Another pleaded: “Vegan Festive Bake please I’ll sell my soul”.

People have been inundating Greggs keen to find out when the Christmas baked goods would be returning: “Festive Bake season is rapidly approaching” said one.

“It’s almost that time of year again Greggs. Give me the festive bake details…” demanded another.

It’s come as a pleasant surprise to many that the vegan option has been introduced too.

The vegan version is filled with Quorn pieces, sage & onion stuffing and a vegan bacon crumb, finished with a sage & cranberry sauce encased in puff pastry.

Meat-eaters can enjoy a filling of chicken, sage & onion stuffing and sweetcure bacon, wrapped in a sage & cranberry sauce and crumb topped pastry.

Hannah Squirrell, Customer Director at Greggs, said: “The Festive Bake is the latest iconic Greggs Bake to receive a vegan-friendly makeover, and it retains all the classic Christmassy flavours of the original. There’s nothing better over the festive season than tucking into delicious Christmas food, and we’re confident that customers will love our latest tasty Bakes.”

The bakes start at £1.60, and get your diary ready: they will be available in all Greggs shops across the UK from Thursday, November 4.
