Hollywood star Richard Gere is said to be on the mend following his recent battle with Pneumonia.

The Pretty Woman actor was on a family holiday in Mexico to celebrate wife Alejandra Silva’s 40th birthday when he was taken to hospital after experiencing a "bad cough" and other worrying symptoms (according to TMZ).

Richard was eventually diagnosed with Pneumonia, and while the details on Richard’s condition haven’t been fully confirmed, wife Alejandra has been keeping fans informed via social media.

In her most recent post, Alejandra shared a carousel of fun memories from their trip, in which Richard can be seen at dinner with his family.

She captioned the post: “What an amazing birthday! Thank you all my friends and family for make it so special!💫♥️ #happybirthday ! Ps: as you can see we are all mostly recovered..”

In other Instagram upload, Alejandra posted more of an update, alongside a photo of her with Richard and their children.

Richard’s wife wrote: “Richard is feeling much better, we are all feeling much better, “almost” back to normal.. we want to thank doctor Rios’s and the hospital la Joya. We came to Mexico to continue with our conservation project south of Puerto Vallarta, we all came not feeling well from NY, our youngest James and Richard got Pneumonia and Alexander and I sinusitis and ear infections, now we are all well and almost fully recovered.

“Thank you all for your messages! Richard wanted me to post this second photo to show you that he is feeling much better.”

The Chicago star and Alejandra married in April 2018 on the actor’s ranch in upstate New York. The pair met when Richard stayed in one of the hotels owned by Alejandra’s family in Positano, Italy in 2014.

Following their marriage Richard told Hello! magazine: ‘I’m the happiest man in the universe. How could I not be?

“I’m married to a beautiful woman who is smart, sensitive, committed to helping people, who’s fun, patient, who knows how to forgive, who’s a great cook – and who makes the best salads in the world!”

He added: “Alejandra meditates, she’s a vegetarian, a great mother, has the touch of an angel and she’s also Spanish – the land of kings and queens, of Cervantes and Bunuel. You can’t get any better than that.”
