Richard Gere on the mend after being hospitalised with pneumonia on family holiday

Richard Gere has reportedly been released from hospital after contracting pneumonia on a family holiday.

The Pretty Woman actor and his wife Alejandra Silva have been celebrating her 40th birthday in Mexico with their children. However it was reported Gere had developed a bad cough during the trip that got so bad he had to check into hospital, where he was diagnosed with pneumonia (via TMZ).

After an overnight stay and a round of antibiotics, the actor was reportedly discharged from hospital and is said to be on the mend.

On Thursday (16th February), Alejandra revealed the whole family had fallen ill but it is not known if theirs was the same as Richard's. Yesterday, she also revealed that Richard was on the mend.

In an Instagram post, Alejandra shared a photo of her walking with her son and husband, alongside the caption: "I woke up this morning and I saw the news and all your kind and worry messages, he is recovering ❤️‍🩹 he is felling much better today! The worst has already pass! Thank you all for you sweet messages we really appreciate them!"

Richard and Alejandra married in April 2018 on the actor’s ranch in upstate New York. The pair met when Richard stayed in one of the hotels owned by Alejandra’s family in Positano, Italy in 2014.

Following their marriage Richard told Hello! magazine: ‘I’m the happiest man in the universe. How could I not be?

“I’m married to a beautiful woman who is smart, sensitive, committed to helping people, who’s fun, patient, who knows how to forgive, who’s a great cook – and who makes the best salads in the world!”

He added: “Alejandra meditates, she’s a vegetarian, a great mother, has the touch of an angel and she’s also Spanish – the land of kings and queens, of Cervantes and Bunuel. You can’t get any better than that.”
