Hollywood icon Kevin Costner is remembering Whitney Houston on the 30-year anniversary of the release of their classic movie, The Bodyguard.
The two starred together in the 1992 drama, in which Costner played a former Secret Service agent-turned-bodyguard charged to protect actress and singer Rachel Marron, portrayed by Houston, from a dangerous stalker.
The Bodyguard was a massive hit with movie-goers, becoming the second highest-grossing film of that year, and the accompanying soundtrack, including Whitney’s career defining I Will Always Love You, picked up numerous accolades, including Album of the year at the Grammy Awards.
30 years after its release, Costner took to Instagram to announce The Bodyguard would be returning to cinemas in the US to celebrate the milestone, and made sure to pay tribute to his co-star.
The Yellowstone actor shared a throwback promotional snap of him with the late, great artist, and wrote: “In November, 30 years after its first premiere, The Bodyguard will be returning to theaters. I couldn’t be more excited that we all get to re-experience this film and the magic that happened when Whitney stepped in front of the camera.”
He added: “I hope you’ll join us in celebrating this movie and her legacy.”
Fans were quick to respond to the moving message, with one writing: “Best movie ever made, makes me cry everytime,” while another said: “How could we forget. The world misses Whitney and her amazing voice.”
Years after their team-up on the big screen, Costner and Houston remained good friends, and the Hidden Figures star gave a eulogy at the legendary singer’s funeral in 2012 following her death aged 48.
Meanwhile, the life of Houston is set to hit the big screen in the upcoming biopic, I Wanna Dance With Somebody.
Naomi Ackie will star as the chart-topper, and the movie will see Houston’s rise to fame from a New Jersey choir girl to one of the best-selling artists of all time.
From the trailer, it seems the film will include some of Houston's most-memorable moments, including her iconic performance of The Star Spangled Banner at the Superbowl in 1991.
I Wanna Dance With Somebody is out in cinemas on 21st December.
