Suranne Jones is set to appear in a new drama called Maryland for upcoming streaming platform ITVX. And in it she’ll be joining forces with Eve Best from House of the Dragon.

Maryland will be a three-part series, and will see Gentleman Jack star Jones play down-to-earth mother of two, Becca. Meanwhile, Best will appear as her high-flying sister, Rosaline. She currently plays Princess Rhaenys Targaryen in the massive Game of Thrones prequel, House of the Dragon.

In the series, Becca must reconcile with Rosaline when their mother is found dead on an Isle of Man beach.

The narrative will follow the two sisters as they head to the Isle of Man, where they "discover shocking information about their mother and find it impossible to escape the ripple effect of her secrets and lies".

Maryland, set for ITV’s new channel ITVX, is being put together by Jones and Anne-Marie O’Connor, who is known for Trollied and Hullraisers. It will be directed by Line of Duty's Sue Tully.

The show will also feature George Costigan from Happy Valley, and The Good Wife’s Stockard Channing, along with Hugh Quarshie from Holby City.

ITV’s Head of Drama, Polly Hill, said in a statement: “Maryland is a beautifully moving story of two sisters, and it’s hard to believe this is Anne-Marie’s first original drama commission.”

She added: “It has a wonderful cast, led by Suranne Jones and Eve Best, and we are delighted that Sue Tully is directing. It promises to be a wonderful family drama for ITVX.”

As well as starring in Gentleman Jack, Suranne Jones also featured in tense drama Vigil last year, and is also known for playing Karen McDonald in Coronation Street.

ITVX is set to replace ITV Hub later this year. Maryland will air on ITVX in 2023.
