The first trailer for the hotly-anticipated new Super Mario Bros. Movie, which stars Chris Pratt, has landed.

The Guardians of the Galaxy star voices Mario in the upcoming film, based on the Nintendo game, and the movie also boasts a star-studded cast of familiar characters, including Charlie Day as Luigi, Anya Taylor-Joy as Princess Peach and Seth Rogen as Donkey Kong, and Jack Black as Bowser.

Meanwhile, Keegan-Michael Key will be Toad, Fred Armisen plays Cranky Kong, Sebastian Maniscalco voices Spike and Kevin Michael Richardson is Kamek.

The two-minute trailer, which premiered last night (6th October) opens with the villain Bowser, his fiery castle, and his army of Koopa Troopas descending upon an ice kingdom of blue penguins. Easily overpowering the penguins, Boswer takes control of a Mario star power-up.

“I finally found it. Now, who’s gonna stop me?” Bowser exclaims.

The clip then shifts tone, with the joyous theme that we all know and love tune kickings in, as we head to the Mushroom Kingdom. There, we see the titular Italian plumber bouncing off the iconic red and white mushrooms until he lands on the ground.

“What is this place?” he asks, before Toad pops up out of nowhere.

The clip also shows Princess Peach’s castle, and ends with Dry Bones chasing Luigi  through a forest.

The movie is directed by Aaron Horvath and Michael Jelenic, and is written by Matthew Fogel, who has worked on The Lego Movie 2 and Minions: The Rise Of Gru.

This isn’t the first Super Mario Bros movie, of course. Back in 1993, there was a live action version which starred Bob Hoskins, John Alberto Leguizamo, Samantha Mathis and Dennis Hopper. The movie was not well received by critics, however, and currently has a rating of 29 percent on review aggregating website, Rotten Tomatoes.

Fingers crossed this new film is an improvement!
