Netflix have developed a real-life Squid Game multiplayer game with Immersive Gamebox that will launch in the UK and US this September.

According to Variety, the companies have collaborated to create a game inspired by the hit South Korean series that will allow two to six players to compete in person in a string of challenges featured in the original show- including Red Light, Green Light, Glass Bridge and Squid Game.

Using motion-sense and touchscreen technology in digital smart rooms, players will feel like they are actually in the games (without the fatal consequences of the original version). Winners of the challenges will go on to win virtual money, and the overall champion will bag the final prize.

Speaking about the project, Immersive Gamebox CEO, Will Dean, said: “To reimagine Netflix’s most popular show in an entirely new format offers customers more ways to stay connected to Squid Game.”

The company is set to launch the game in four locations across the UK and nine in the US on 21st September this year. The game, which is 60 minutes long, will only be available to those aged 16 and over, with tickets starting at £19. Prices vary depending on dates and locations, and you can find out more information here.

Squid Game took the world by storm when it first premiered on Netflix in September last year, and recently, the show made history after being nominated for 14 Emmy Awards.

It became the first non-English language series to be nominated in the main drama category and was also put up for best outstanding drama series, with lead actor Lee Jung-jae receiving a nomination for outstanding lead actor in a drama series.

Jung-jae’s co-star, Park Hae-soo, who played Player 218 Cho Sang-woo, and Oh Yeong-su, who appeared as Player 001, both received nominations as well.

Squid Game season one is currently streaming on Netflix.
