Good news from the USA where a farm and a micro-brewery have formed a partnership that will inspire many in similar positions around the world.

Say hello to The Dickinson College Farm and Molly Pitcher Brewing Co. in Pennsylvania, where, here’s the clever bit, the tonnes of brewer’s grain they use to make their beer would normally go into landfill, but instead, it’s collected and sent to the farm where something magical and , if we’re honest, pretty stanky happens. The boozy grain is mixed with livestock waste and food waste then put into a big digester to make methane gas. Loads of it! The gas is totally natural, super combustible and now powers not just the farm’s entire operations, but the neighbouring farm too and they have enough left over to sell to a utility company for another revenue stream, so it’s a quadruple win! Clean, green, sustainable power from stuff that would normally be part of the problem, and another cool chapter in the power of poo story!

Heartwarming and, in fact, heart pumping news from Thailand where a mama elephant and her calf were dramatically rescued.

Say ‘sawat-di-krap’ to the team of vets called out to help in the rescue of a ten year old elephant mum and her little calf, who’d fallen into a deep concrete pit.

In torrential rain, they managed to heave the massive pachyderm out with the arm of a huge digger, but she hit her head on her way out and collapsed. While rescuers worked on getting the stricken calf out, vets knew that Mum had gone into cardiac arrest, they couldn’t feel her pulse. Now, the question is: how do you give an elephant CPR? The answer is the same way as us, but a lot harder…the vet had to jump up and down on her chest in a regular rhythm. amazingly, the three hour ordeal had the happiest ending as mum’s heart started beating again, she leapt up to be reunited with her calf and then walked into the forest together as the vets collapsed, with relief! You can see the video for yourself!
