If you’ve watched Neighbours over the past 27 years, you’ll know Toadfish. The character is one of the most recognisable faces on the show, and the man who plays him - Ryan Moloney - has revealed that reading his last line of script caused him to break down in tears.

Toadie, otherwise known as Jarrod Rebecchi, first appeared on Ramsey Street on 23rd January 1995 as a troubled teenager, and eventually went on to become a lawyer. He has experienced many iconic moments during his time on the soap, not least when, after getting married to Dee in 2003, their car flew off a cliff into the sea, and his new wife tragically died… or so it seemed. Dee then reappeared 14 years on.

Maloney explained that saying goodbye to his character - and the show, which ends after 37 years - was hard. “The last line that I got to say is so poignant, that as soon as I read it, I burst into tears,” he said. “It was like, ‘Oh my God, how amazing this is my last line?’”

In an interview with the Herald Sun, the actor also said that he thinks viewers will be satisfied with how the soap comes to a conclusion. “This might sound corny, but knowing what's in the finale, I'd have to say (as a fan) I’d be pretty happy with it,” he said.

Whilst Toadie has been a consistent figure in Erinsborough through the decades, many previous characters are making a return for the show’s final week. Kylie Minogue, Jason Donovan, and Guy Pearce are all set to turn up in the last episode.

On his return as Mike, Guy Pearce recently said: “Who is Mike now, how do I play this guy? I had to trawl through my memory bank to understand how I might actually play him.”

The last ever episode of Neighbours will air in the UK on July 29th at 9pm on Channel 5.
