With speculation continuing about who will play James Bond next, after Daniel Craig hung up his tuxedo, Ana De Armas has spoken about women’s roles in the franchise.
Ana, who played CIA agent Paloma in the most recent Bond film, No Time To Die, has said that she thinks the roles of women in the films should be “more substantial”.
However, regarding the titular character, she said: “There’s no need for a female Bond.”
She explained: “There shouldn’t be any need to steal someone else’s character, you know, to take over.”
Referencing Ian Fleming’s books from which the films came, she added: “This is a novel, and it leads into this James Bond world and this fantasy of that universe where he’s at.”
However, although Ana doesn’t think that Bond needs to be portrayed by a woman, she is keen for women to be recognised. She told The Sun: “What I would like is that the female roles in the Bond films, even though Bond will continue to be a man, are brought to life in a different way.”
She continued: “That they’re given a more substantial part and recognition. That’s what I think is more interesting than flipping things.”
Ana De Armas will portray Marilyn Monroe in upcoming Netflix biopic Blonde. Check out the trailer here:
Before that, she will be seen in action thriller The Gray Man (also on Netflix). Landing on the streaming platform tomorrow, The Gray Man stars Ryan Gosling, Chris Evans (not our one), and Bridgerton’s Regé-Jean Page.
The action-packed movie will see Gosling’s character, Court Gentry, aka Sierra Six, accidentally uncover dark agency secrets, after which he becomes a primary target and is hunted around the world by psychopathic former colleague (Evans) and international assassins.
Ana de Armas, meanwhile, will play Agent Dani Miranda. She has Six’s back, and it sounds like he’ll need it!
Virginradio.co.uk spoke to Ryan Gosling on the red carpet at a UK Special Screening in London last night (20th July). Find out what he told us about preparing for the role.
The Gray Man arrives on Netflix on July 22nd.
