Dystopian thriller The Handmaid's Tale is returning for its fifth season, and a new teaser trailer has dropped which shows the fallout of the death of Commander Fred Waterford.

You’ll recall the explosive final episode of season four, which saw June (played by Elisabeth Moss) and a number of other Handmaid refugees kill Fred in the woods. Well, it now seems that there will be consequences for their actions, and that Serena (Yvonne Strahovski) is plotting her revenge against June.

And Gilead as a whole wants revenge as well, if the new trailer is anything to go by, as Mark Tuello (Sam Jaeger) says: “A handmaid killing her commander, Gilead is not going to let that stand.”

Uh oh!

However, as you would imagine, June is not shying away from confrontation. In the new season five teaser, she says “You want to fight? Let’s fight.”

The first look at the action from the upcoming season sees June in Canada with her husband Luke Bankole (played by O-T Fagbenle). “I want her to know that it was me,” June says, regarding Serena. “The grieving wife. She knows the world is watching..." Joy continues.

In the new clip, we also see Aunt Lydia, who seems worryingly upbeat, as she says: “Oh, blessed be this day.”

Even more worrying, is we hear June say, “I feel Gilead pulling me back.”

The new season will air in the US on September 14th 2022, with a two-part premiere episode. At this stage, however, there is no UK release date, but we can expect it to follow on Channel 4 not too long after that date, if it follows the pattern of previous seasons.
