The daughter of Bruce Willis has shared an emotional update after her famous father announced he was retiring from acting due to health reasons.

Last week, the news was shared by Bruce’s other daughter Rumer, who revealed the Die Hard star has been diagnosed with aphasia, 'which is impacting his cognitive abilities.'

According to the NHS website, aphasia is usually caused by damage to the left side of the brain, and that people with aphasia often have trouble with the four main ways people understand and use language. These are reading, listening, speaking, and typing or writing.

Scout Willis, whose mum is actress Demi Moore, took to social media to share a sweet photo of the duo together following the sad news, and thanked everyone for their well-wishes.

Accompanying the lovely photo, Scout wrote: “Yesterday was so surreal, sharing something so personal. I didn’t know how it would be received, there is always an unknown when sharing out so vulnerably into the world.

“I’d hoped for some love and compassion, I truly NEVER could have anticipated the depth and breadth of the love we received as a family yesterday. It kept hitting me yesterday how much love, energy, and prayers were now being sent to my daddio and just humbling me in a way that’s brings tears as I write this.

“I am so grateful for your love, I’m so grateful to hear about what my papa means to you. Thank you so much to everyone who reached out to me yesterday, i love and I appreciate you with all my heart, it’s gonna take me a whole to respond to your messages!

The retirement announcement, from Willis’ wife Emma Heming Willis, his ex-wife Demi, and his children, Rumer, Scout, Tallulah, Mabel and Evelyn, led to an outpouring of love and support from the actor’s friends and peers.

Jamie Lee Curtis commented on Moore's post, saying: "Grace and guts! Love to you all!"

M. Night Shyamalan, who directed Willis in The Sixth Sense, wrote on Twitter: “All my love and respect to my big brother Bruce Willis. I know his wonderful family is surrounding him with support and strength. He will always be that hero on that poster on my wall as a kid.”

Dean Norris - Hank from Breaking Bad - wrote: “So sorry to hear the news about Bruce Willis. Worked with him on Death Wish and he was a lovely awesome badass man. Prayers for him and his family. Legend.”

As well as being known for playing John McClane in the Die Hard series, the 67-year-old actor is acclaimed for his roles in Pulp Fiction and 12 Monkeys. He first came to prominence in TV series Moonlighting, alongside Cybill Shepherd, and also appeared as the grumpy father of Ross’ girlfriend in Friends.
