Who knew that there was an annual ice cream 'Oscars'?

A churro bar in Glasgow has scooped the title for serving the UK's best ice cream.

Gelator creators Loop and Scoop came out on top at the National Ice Cream Championships 2022.

There are two locations in Glasgow with a third on the way.

They proved themselves to be cream of the crop a Gold Medal and Trophy at the annual awards.

Their win came after a taste-off against hundreds of products across 13 categories.

Even more impressively, the winning flavour is a dairy-free sea salted chocolate gelato.

It was judged as a winner in the Alternative category.

The awards are now in their 77th year and organised by the Ice Cream Alliance (ICA).

All sorts of flavours were included, with judges blind-tasting everything from dairy-free, low-fat, high-protein to no-sugar ice cream.

Shop boss Calvin Kayes opened Loop and Scoop in 2017.

He said: "We're thrilled for the recognition of all the hard work we have put in over winter in refining and tweaking our recipe.

"It will help towards demonstrating to our loyal customers how invested we are in what we do.

"Our sea salted chocolate gelato is a new recipe we have been working on over the last few months. It reflects modern trends with how people want dairy-free options without compromising the feel and taste."

The bar also sells handcrafted churros accompanied by its own homemade gelato.
