She’s been getting other people boogying since the first lockdown with her Kitchen Discos, and now Sophie Ellis-Bextor will attempt to dance for 24 hours for this year's BBC Radio 2 Children in Need Challenge.
The danceathon launches at 9.25am on Tuesday 16 November, and will end at the same time the following day after Sophie as, hopefully, danced for the full 24 hours!
Sophie’s Kitchen Disco started during the first lockdown back in 2020, whereby she shared videos of herself singing and dancing in her kitchen, surrounded by her five kids. The videos proved to be incredibly popular, with people joining in from their own homes.
Sophie has gone on to host several Kitchen Disco shows on Radio 2 and BBC Sounds, and will soon be attempting the exhastiing task of going for a full 24 hours.
She said: “I love to dance, I love to ‘Kitchen Disco’, but can I keep going for a whole 24 hours?”
The multi-platinum selling singer will be helped along the way by several, as yet unannounced celebrity guests, who will join her at various junctures throughout the 24 hours, which will take place at the BBC Radio Theatre in London. Some will join her in person, and others via videolink

Sophie’s epic fundraising Kitchen Disco follows last year’s 24-hour challenge, which was undertaken by Joe Wicks. The fitness hero raised over £2.5million by doing 24 hours of non-stop exercise.
In 2019, Rylan Clark-Neal did a karaoke challenge - or Ka-Ry-Oke, as he called it - singing for 24 hours and being joined by a host of special guests including Heather Small, Beverley Knight, Gabrielle, Nicole Sherzinger, Carol Decker and Bjorn Again.
Before Sophie goes for a full day of discoing though, there is another music challenge that will raise money for Children in Need. BBC weather presenter, and awesome drummer, Owain Wyn Evans is planning to drum constantly for 24 hours from 8.35am on 12th November.
You can donate to Sophie’s challenge here.
