If you’re a fan of Iggy Pop or Ancient Egypt, you’re in for a treat. If you’re a fan of both Iggy Pop and Ancient Egypt, then you’re about to hit the jackpot, as the legendary musician is set to lend his iconic voice to a documentary about Tutankhamun.

Tutankhamun: The Last Exhibition focuses on the history of the tomb’s discovery by British archaeologist Howard Carter in 1922, as well as the preparation of the touring Tutankhamun exhibition, which opened in Los Angeles in 2019.

The doc was produced in Italy by Nexus Digital and Italian cultural agency Laboratoriorosso, and the Italian version is narrated by musician Manuel Agnelli. When looking for someone to voice the English language version, the producers opted to try to find another musician. Nexus Digital’s Rosella Gioffré told Variety, “We were looking for somebody that could give a different appeal to the narration of the movie, and we thought of Pop and he accepted.”

Laboratoriorosso CEO and documentary producer Sandro Vannini said, “When we heard his voice for the first time we said, this is the voice.

“This is what we need for this film. The voice of Iggy Pop is simply incredible.”

The touring exhibition, King Tut: Treasures of the Golden Pharaoh, contained more than 150 artefacts from Tutankhamun’s grave, and was due to run until 2023 but was cut short due to Covid-19. The Egyptian government have now said that the artefacts will never leave the country again.

The film is likely to be released in 2022, so you’ll have to wait a while to hear Iggy Pop's dulcet tones teaching you about Ancient Egypt!
