Ed Sheeran may have been named artist of the decade, but it's been confirmed that Lewis Capaldi was the top-selling artist of 2019. As Ed has confirmed he's taking a break for the foreseeable future too, there's no better time for Lewis to try to steal his songwriting crown. The hilarious Scottish singer claimed both the best-selling single and album of 2019, with Someone You Loved, and his debut record Divinely Uninspired To A Hellish Extent.

It's good news in general for the music industry too, as our consumption has increased for the fifth year in a row, to the highest level for 15 years.

In 2019, 154million albums were either streamed, bought or downloaded.
