Documentary claims David Bowie didn't know his cancer was terminal

A BBC documentary has claimed that David Bowie didn't know his cancer was terminal until he was filming the music video for on his final studio album,

The iconic star died of liver cancer last January, a couple of days after his 69th birthday.

He'd kept his illness private, but the director of the video, Johan Renck, claimed in the documentary - which focuses on Bowie's final years - the rock legend was told while they were shooting that his cancer treatment was ending because it wasn't working.

The anniversary of the star's passing falls on Tuesday (January 10). A special tribute concert at London's O2 Academy in Brixton, Bowie's childhood home, will mark his birthday this weekend.
