One of the stars of Strictly Come Dancing has had a surgical procedure for a “nasty” foot injury.

Craig Revel Horwood, who is one of the judges on the hit BBC show, has explained that the surgery was needed to “flatten” his toes.

During a recent appearance on Ireland’s Late Late Show -which was, of course, formerly presented by Virgin Radio’s own Ryan Tubridy - the dance icon told new host Patrick Kielty about the injury, and showed off his orthopaedic shoes.

"It is a dance injury," he explained. "My little toes got all squashed up and I had a procedure to flatten them out."

He continued: "It is for dancing, because I was getting terrible wounds from these nasty bunions, dear."

Putting a foot on the desk, the Strictly judge said: "Now I have to wear these cool shoes. I mean, they are pretty hideous, aren’t they? I’m just saying, they are not a fashion statement!

"I have teamed them with the flare and everyone thinks I’m trendy, but I still can’t walk in them properly.”

Craig, who is currently in the Wizard Of Oz stage show, added: “This is why I had this done five weeks ago so I can slip my beautiful little new toes into a nice pair of stilettos to play the Wicked Witch of the West."

Speaking about the condition of his feet, Craig added: “I’m a professional dancer, and we are used to being in continuous pain," he said, before explaining that he had “worn out both hip joints from dancing and ballet,” and that he has “osteoarthritis.”

Meanwhile, another judge, Shirley Ballas, has shared that undergoing a biopsy test to check for breast cancer has been “terrifying” and urges people not to miss their check-ups.

In other Strictly news, Will Young has addressed the real reason that he departed Strictly just three weeks into the competition in 2016, and confessed he would be up for doing the show again - on one condition. Read more here.
