A popular BBC game show could be about to come back to our screens.
Yes, it is being reported that Hole in the Wall might be about to be given the reboot treatment.
Remember Hole in the Wall? Of course you do. The British game show lasted two series, and was an adaptation of the Japanese game Brain Wall (also known as Human Tetris) in which players had to shape themselves so that they fit through cutout holes of varying shapes in a massive wall that moved towards them as they stood in front of a swimming pool. If they were unsuccessful, they got very wet.
The late Dale Winton was the original host in 2008, with Strictly’s Anton du Beke and cricket star Darren Gough as team captains for the first series.
Dancer Anton took over as host for the second series in 2009, with Austin Healey and Joe Swash as captains.
Well, 15 years on, a TV insider has now told The Sun: “The production company that own the rights to the show have been floating the idea of bringing it back with broadcasters.
“That includes the BBC, but just because it started out on the Beeb doesn’t mean it will end up there second time round, it could end up on ITV or even a streamer.
The source added: ““It could even lead to a bidding war between some big companies, many of whom will now be headed up by execs who used to watch the show when they were growing up.”
The possibility of Hole in the Wall returning comes after another huge game show, Gladiators, returned to screens this year.
The revamped, action-packed show hit the BBC in January, having originally aired on ITV back in the 1990s. So popular was its return, Gladiators is heading back for a second instalment fronted by dad and son duo, Bradley and Barney Walsh.
