As new Channel 5 drama The Cuckoo continues to draw viewers in, a new preview of tonight’s (9th April) episode shows Jill Halfpenny’s lodger continuing to cause a rift in the family home.

In the riveting new series, a seemingly innocent decision to take in lodger Sian (Halfpenny) to help deal with their finances turns into a rollercoaster of chaos for Jessica (Claire Goose) and Nick (Lee Ingleby).

Jessica and Nick also have concerns about Sian getting ever closer to their teenage daughter Alice (Freya Hannan-Mills), who bonds with the new lodger over their love of art.

Check out The Cuckoo episode 2 preview clip here:

The preview shows Sian sitting down to breakfast with the family, and it seems Alice’s infatuation with the new resident is taking already effect.

The pair giggle at the kitchen table while Jessica considers two different types of wood for the house renovation

“You have a great eye,” Sian tells Alice upon seeing a drawing of her mother’s indecision over panelling.

Nick then enters, pleased with himself that he’d fixed the shower. “Jess and I had someone sorted for that,” Sian pipes in, before Nick bats back: “Well I saved us a couple of quid.”

“It was going to be for free,” Sian argues back, before Nick rudely responds: “We’re not a charity case, just yet.”

With the cracks starting to form in the house, it’s clear viewers are in for an intense emotional rollercoaster as the series continues, and actor Lee himself insisted that fans will be “shouting at the TV”

"It got to a point where I’d be filming a big scene just wondering what the Goggleboxers would say about it,” he told Radio Times

Halfpenny herself also promised a viewing experience like no other, saying: "You’ll have moments where you’re in complete disbelief watching people behave in a certain way."

The Cuckoo continues on Channel 5 at 9pm tonight (Tuesday 9th April).
