Amid the seemingly interminable wait to find if there will be any more episodes of Line of Duty, the exciting news is that a new thriller series featuring one of its stars has just been announced.

It has been revealed that Martin Compston - who played Steve Arnott in hit BBC crime drama Line of Duty - is set to play the lead role in a new psychological thriller series called Fear, which is expected to land next year.

The three-part series will air on Prime Video, and is based on Dirk Kurbjuweit's book of the same name. The narrative sees the Scottish star play a character called Martyn, who moves to Glasgow from London for a new start with his wife Rebecca (played by Anjli Mohindra from Vigil) and their two young kids.

Fear’s synopsis says: “At first the new home seems idyllic, but when neighbour Jan (Solly McLeod) makes unnerving comments to Rebecca, it turns out to be the start of something far more intimidating.

"Facing accusations that are every parent's worst nightmare, and with the authorities refusing to step in, Martyn and Rebecca feel they have nowhere to turn to for help."

The cast also includes Anneika Rose, who featured in Line of Duty as Farida Jatri. Meanwhile, James Cosmo from Game of Thrones, Deadwater Fell’s Maureen Beattie, , Daniel Portman from Black Mirror,, and The Diplomat’s Bhav Joshi also feature.

Martin Compston has been back on the BBC lately for his Norwegian Fling with Phil MacHugh.

And what about Line of Duty?

Well, another of the show’s stars, Adrian Dunbar, recently said that the cast were “eager” to get back to their AC-12 duties. "It would be great, wouldn't it?” he said during an appearance on BBC Morning Live. “I mean we are all very eager for it to come back obviously, me, Vicky [McClure] and Martin, and so are the public it seems, as they are always asking us.”

However, he added: “But as of yet I can't answer that question. Just keep your fingers crossed."
