With only six celebrities left and three weeks until the big final, the competition is really ramping up.
Very soon, we’ll find out who will be lifting the Strictly Come Dancing glitterball trophy for 2024, and after last night’s performances, it could be anyone.
So here’s what happened in Week 10 of Strictly Come Dancing:
Layton and Nikita kicked things off with an American Smooth, hoping they would finally score a 10 for a ballroom dance. However, it was not meant to be and head judge Shirley Ballas commented: “Performance excellent but not smooth enough and it lacked space, footwork lumpy, not your best.” The pair still scored a respectable 34 points, but it was their lowest score in six weeks.
Next was Nigel and Katya who performed a rumba this week that even impressed judge Craig Revel Horwood. He said: “I wanted more hip action but loved the routine, controlled, gorgeous arms”. Motsi Mabuse also said: “lacked basic steps but great partnering and connection”. They scored 33 points.
Annabel and Johannes took to the floor to perform a fierce Paso Doble that may have cemented her as a dark horse for the final. Shirley Ballas said of the routine: “Pure class, full-on and focused, some of the best Paso footwork I’ve seen. Fantastic.”. However, Craig added: “Lacked fire and lost intent, clean, controlled and commanding but performance suffered”. They scored 36 points.
Virgin Radio’s Angela Scanlon and her partner Carlos were up next after their fabulous routine in Blackpool last week. This week, they were dancing the cha cha cha with a 70s disco theme. Motsi Mabuse said: “I wanted more knee action and looser hips, but energy off the roof”. Anton also commented: “nervous start but then nailed it”. They scored 31 points, putting them at the bottom of the leader board.
Hoping to bounce back from last week’s dance-off, Bobby and Dianne performed their couples' choice routine, dedicated to Bobby’s late mother- reality TV star Jade Goody. Jade died from cervical cancer aged just 27 and Bobby’s routine portrayed what it was like growing up without her. Emotions were high among the judges, and a teary-eyed Shirley said: “Danced from the heart. By far your best number, pure movement through your body.” Motsi concluded that the dance “transcends technicalities, you carried a beautiful message and captured the song”. They scored 37 points.
Ellie and Vito brought the fire to the dancefloor this week with a sizzling Argentine Tango, hoping to knock the judges off their feet. However, while most agreed her footwork was top-notch, the dance needed more intimacy. Anton said: “lean, quick but maybe lacked a bit of intensity”. Craig also commented: “It lacked intimacy, A-frame missing but incredible, clean as a whistle, brilliant lifts”. It was still enough to bag some 10s from Motsi and Shirley though, and the pair scored 38 points.
Week 10 leader board in full
Ellie and Vito: 9, 10, 10, 9 (38)
Bobby and Dianne: 8, 9, 10, 10 (37)
