The most incredible news pupdate from the USA and a dog who saved his 17 year old owner’s life because he knew that 17 year old was having a stroke in the middle of the night.

We’ve had several stories here over the years about dogs detecting cancer early in their owner’s bodies and saving their lives. In this pawsome story, border collie Axel woke up his parents before dawn, which was unusual, but they thought he was desperate to get out for a wee…but no, instead he just clawed at the door of their teenage son Gabriel. Axel knew what they didn’t, that their son was having a stroke on the left side of his brain. Dogs can detect tiny changes in our physiology, even our blood pressure and the fact that Axel went so bananas led them to discover their son before the stroke may have killed him. If they hadn’t got Gabriel to hospital at that time, he would most likely be in a wheelchair for the rest of his life and unable to speak. Because of amazing Axel, Gabriel’s speech and use of his right arm (which he lost) are back to normal.

There is a heart warming pattern of good deeds relating to students that’s been making the good news feeds and it’s to do with debt cancellation.

I’ve told you stories of rich philanthropists paying for specific students, or sometimes a whole class, but this is something even more encouraging and inspiring. Debt collectors buy debt off all sorts of companies and organisations, at a fraction of what the debt is, then chase the debt for its actual value. But for 3,000 students at Morehouse College in Atlanta, the debt wasn’t bought to then hurry and threaten them, it was bought at just over a cent in every dollar, then written off, so 3,000 graduates from a historically black university could get on the housing ladder, start saving for retirement, or start businesses. There are charities now cropping up to buy debt, both student and medical and write it off to give people a chance of a better life. Hope this catches on over here!
