Strictly Come Dancing 2023 start date officially announced and there’s only weeks to go

Strictly Come Dancing will be back on screens very soon, with the release date officially announced by the BBC.

As reported by the broadcaster, Strictly Come Dancing 2023 will hit BBC One and BBC iPlayer on Saturday 16 September from 6.35pm.

This launch show will then lead into the first live show, which is set to be filmed on 23rd September and then every Saturday until the final date of 16th December, according to the official BBC Tickets Website

Hosts Tess Daly and Claudia Winkleman are back at the helm, with judges Shirley Ballas, Anton Du Beke, Craig Revel Horwood and Motsi Mabuse back on the panel. 

Strictly will once again be filmed at Elstree Film and Television Studios, with a one-off special from Blackpool Tower Ballroom.

The line-up for Strictly 2023 is absolutely stuffed with top talent, and some history-making competitors too. 

Broadcasting legend Angela Rippon will be the oldest ever Strictly contestant at 78-years-old. Meanwhile, Zara McDermott will be the very first Love Island contestant to swap villa life for the dance floor. 

TV legend Les Dennis will finally compete for the glitterball trophy after 50 years in showbiz. 

He said of his announcement: “I’m thrilled to be doing this iconic wonderful show as I approach my 70th birthday! In my career I’ve always gone for challenges outside my comfort zone and this is the ultimate one! Can’t wait.”

Meanwhile, tennis icon Annabel Croft announced her slot on the Strictly Come Dancing roster here at Virgin Radio!

She told Ricky Wilson, filling in on The Chris Evans Breakfast Show with cinch at the time: “I'm actually just really excited. I know it's a competition, but I don't really want to compete, other than with myself, and I just want to enjoy the joyfulness of dancing. I've always loved watching dance, I could watch it all day. When I watch those professionals, I can't take my eyes off of them. They're so amazing.” 

Strictly Come Dancing 2023 will begin on BBC One and BBC iPlayer on Saturday 16 September at 6.35pm.
