Taskmaster series 16 stars Sam Campbell, Sue Perkins, Susan Wokoma, Greg Davies, Alex Horne, Julian Clary, Lucy Beaumont

We finally know when the next series of Taskmaster will return to Channel 4 - and there really isn’t long to wait until more hilarious challenges hit our screens!

Greg Davies will be back as the revered Taskmaster, while (little) Alex Horne will return as his right-hand-man.

Now, Channel 4 have confirmed series 16 of Taskmaster will kick off on Thursday 21st September at 9pm.

Entering the Taskmaster house will be former Bake Off star, Sue Perkins. She will follow in the footsteps of her Bake Off co-host and comedy partner, Mel Giedroyc, who was in series four of Taskmaster.

Also taking on all manner of weird and wonderful tasks will be comedy legend Julian Clary. The actor, comedian, novelist and presenter has been on telly and in films and stage productions since the mid-1980s. He won Celebrity Big Brother in 2012.

Series 16 will also feature Lucy Beaumont, who has starred in her own show, Meet The Richardsons, with her hubby Jon Richardson, as well as the likes of 8 Out of 10 Cats Does Countdown. Jon was on Taskmaster all the way back in series two.

Susan Wokoma, best known for BBC One's sitcom Cheaters and for playing Edith in Enola Holmes will be in the new series, as will Australian comedian Sam Campbell, who recently received a UK National Comedy Award nomination for his stand-up show.

In a statement, Channel 4 said: "All five are vying to win points, prizes, and eternal glory in hope of winning the coveted golden trophy along with bragging rights as the Taskmaster Series 16 Champion."

Meanwhile, sidekick Alex recently told Virgin Radio that a former contestant’s daughter once had a hand in making a task for a previous series.

It turns out 2021 contestant Lee Mack was a lot closer to the series than just being one of the five celebs taking part.

While at CarFest 2023, the Horne Section star explained: “I have to deny that anyone comes up with a tasks, except for me. We don't outsource to children…but that is true.

“Lee was on the show a few years ago, and his son actually did work experience on the show. They told us that his daughter had come up with this game that they all played and it's honestly one of the few, probably up to three, tasks that have ever been come up with by someone other than me and it's brilliant.

He continued: “It’s one of the best ones there’s ever been, but I can't tell you what it is because it's a secret.”

Taskmaster series 16 begins on Thursday 21st September at 9pm on Channel 4.
