Doctor Who has finally revealed exactly who Yasmin Finney will be playing in this year’s 60th anniversary specials - and it’s very exciting news!
In order to celebrate the Heartstopper star’s birthday, the official Doctor Who account on X (formerly Twitter) sent a happy birthday message to her, and in doing so revealed that her character, previously announced simply as ‘Rose’, is returning companion Donna’s daughter.
“Welcome to the #DoctorWho family, Rose Noble,” the post read. “Wishing a very happy birthday to Yasmin Finney, whose character Rose is the daughter of companion Donna Noble (played by Catherine Tate) and Shaun Temple (Karl Collins),” it also added.
The post then teased: “So the question is, what happens when Rose meets one of her mum’s oldest friends?
“It is a mystery for now,” it continued. “But what we do know is that just like her mother, Rose stumbles across something alien - and from that point her seemingly ordinary family is never quite the same…”
Fans have been speculating about whether or not Rose would be Catherine Tate’s character’s daughter ever since Yasmin was announced as a part of the special cast.
However, it is only now - over a year after the 20-year-old was originally revealed to be joining the popular sci-fi show - that this news has been confirmed officially by the programme.
Yasmin is one of several guest cast members who have so far been revealed to be joining returning Doctor Who actor David Tennant’s Fourteenth Doctor in the 60th anniversary specials. Other exciting names have also been announced for Ncuti Gatwa’s Fifteenth Doctor’s first season next year.
When Yasmin was first announced to be joining the cast of the three anniversary specials The Star Beast, Wild Blue Yonder and The Giggle, returning showrunner Russell T Davies said: “It’s an absolute joy to welcome Yasmin to the Doctor Who set.
“We all fell in love with her in Heartstopper, one of those shows which changes the world - and now Yasmin can change the Whoniverse!”
Doctor Who will be returning to our timestream on BBC One and BBC iPlayer later this year.
