Tina Turner's spokesperson has confirmed that the singer has died, aged 83.

A statement reads:

"Tina Turner, the 'Queen of Rock'n Roll' has died peacefully today at the age of 83 after a long illness in her home in Kusnacht near Zurich, Switzerland.

"With her, the world loses a music legend and a role model."

Born Anna-Mae Bullock in 1939 in Tennessee, her rise to fame began as the lead singer of Ike & Tina Turner Revue. She would go on to sell over 100 million records worldwide over the course of a career spanning 60 years.

In the UK, she was the first artist to have a top 40 hit in seven consecutive decades, with a total of 35 UK top 40 hits.

She is survived by her husband Erwin Bach and two of her four children.

Stars from all corners of the music world and beyond have been paying tribute, such was Turner's influence.
