Good news that our rainforests have made the news again! Third time this year!

They were the backdrop for Arthurian legends, the muse for Tolkien’s elf forest worlds. But Britain’s rainforests have not endured like the tales they inspired – less than 1 per cent remain. But, that is changing.

We now have a charity whose sole purpose is to triple the size of these beautiful and magical habitats where life grows on life.

The Thousand Year Trust was founded by army veteran Merlin Hanbury-Tenison. “I have PTSD, and temperate rainforests were a big part of my healing journey,” he told Positive News. “They are the best habitat we have in the UK for carbon sequestration, ecosystem restoration and human mental health and wellbeing.”

Hear hear!

The trust is the first charity entirely dedicated to reviving Britain’s lost rainforests, but of course they’re not alone in the mission. I’ve told you about  the Wildlife Trust 100 year mission and a private venture funded by Aviva. The more the merrier we are!

Inspiring news from the USA as a super senior who became sad and quiet after outliving her beloved dog finds a new best mate, another super senior but with four legs and a really sunny disposition.

Say hello to 100 year old Johanna Carrington, originally from Germany but a Californian for many decades now. Joanna puts her fantastic innings down to always being surrounded by animals, she had 8 Pekinese doggos at one point, but her elegant century meant she has outlived all her furry friends. When she lost the last one, her daughter said she became quiet and depressed, so she found a pawsome charity program in San Francisco called Seniors For Seniors, which matches vintage doggos with vintage humans. They found a perfect fit in Gucci, a senior chihuahua who bonded straight away…“He came to the house like he’d been here before. It was remarkable,” said Johanna. “He saw me sitting on my chair, jumped up on me and sat on my lap. He made himself very, very comfortable and became our baby straight away.”

Her carer is taking still active Gucci for walks and Johanna is looking forward to celebrating her 101st birthday with Gucci next week.
