What’s on TV over the Coronation bank holiday?

It’s the coronation of King Charles III this weekend and we’ve got an extra day off to kick back and relax. 

Of course, there will be lots of Coronation-themed things on telly, with TalkTV covering the event in full. However, if you’re looking for something else to watch- we’ve got you covered. 

Here is what’s on TV over the bank holiday. 

Saturday

Johnny English Strikes Again - 11:45am (Channel 4)

When a hacker breaks into the government database and exposes the active undercover agents in Britain, Johnny English is hired to catch the culprit.

Matilda - 3pm (ITV)

It’s a classic and just the thing we need on a Saturday afternoon. Roald Dahl’s book is brought to life in this 1996 adaptation which sees a very special girl change her life using her incredible powers.

Abba at the BBC - 11pm (BBC Two)

If you fancy a bit of boogie after the street party, stick this on. The compilation includes interviews and performances from the band as they play their biggest hits.

Sunday

Wallace and Gromit: A Matter of Loaf and Death - 3:45pm (BBC One)

The infamous pair are back and this time, they have opened up a new bakery. Business is booming, but mainly because a deadly Cereal Killer has murdered all the other bakers in down. Gromit is afraid they might be next but Wallace’s mind is elsewhere after falling in love.

Mrs Doubtfire - 5:40 (Channel 4)

It’s one of Robin Williams’ best roles and an absolute classic, especially when there may be some sore heads from the street parties the next before! The film follows Daniel, a divorced actor, who disguises himself as Mrs Doubtfire, an ageing female Scottish housekeeper, in order to spend more time with his children.

The Coronation concert - 8pm (BBC One) 

Windsor Castle will be welcoming musical acts from all over the world to celebrate the Coronation of King Charles III on Sunday. The likes of Lionel Richie, Take That and Katy Perry will be taking to the stage, along with Paloma Faith, Olly Murs and Steve Winwood.

Morecambe and Wise: 30 funniest moments - 8pm (Channel 5) 

Channel 5 will be counting down through some of the funniest sketches and moments from British comedy icons Morecambe and Wise. 

The Shawshank Redemption - 10pm (BBC Two)

Starring Morgan Freeman and Tim Robbins, Shawshank Redemption follows the story of Andy Dufresne, a successful banker, who is arrested and sentenced for life for the murders of his wife and her lover.

John and Joe Bishop: Life After Deaf - 10:55pm (ITV)

If you missed this BAFTA-nominated documentary the first time around, now is a perfect opportunity to catch up. John Bishop and his son Joe, who lost most of his hearing at the age of 15, embark upon a journey to understand more about the Deaf community and learn British Sign Language together.

Monday

Eurovision Welcomes the World - 6:30pm (BBC One)

Celebrations for this year’s Eurovision Song Contest will well and truly kick off on Monday with Rylan and Sunetra Sarker live from the turquoise carpet. We will also be treated to performances from Ukraine’s Jamala and Frankie Goes to Hollywood.

1917 - 9pm (BBC Two)

The academy award-winning movie set in World War I, follows two British soldiers - Lance Cpl. Schofield and Lance Cpl. Blake, who receive seemingly impossible orders. In a race against time, they must cross over into enemy territory to deliver a message that could potentially save 1,600 of their fellow comrades -- including Blake's own brother.

Roman Kemp: Our Silent Emergency - 9pm (BBC Three)

The presenter embarks on deeply personal and candid journey as he explores the mental health and suicide crisis affecting young men in the UK.

There you have it! Some non-coronation things to sink your teeth into this long weekend.
