Jaws have dropped in movie land after it has been announced that Hugh Grant is set to star in Wonka as an Oompa Loompa - and he's going to bring some sass.

The big (tiny) news was revealed during CinemaCon 2023 at the Warner Bros presentation in Las Vegas and minds have been blown that Hugh is taking on the iconic role created by Roald Dahl in his 1964 book Charlie and the Chocolate Factory.

Appearing alongside lead Timothée Chalamet and working once again with Paddington director Paul King, the star described his character as being a 'perfectly respectable size' who is quite 'sassy'.

Entertainment reporter Germain Lussier tweeted: “Extended trailer for Wonka... Shows him originating all of his special chocolates against the will of an evil chocolate cartel.

"Ends with HUGH GRANT as an Oompa Loompa, the first one Willy meets. He sings for him. Looks very joyous and bright and fun.”

Chalamet told the crowd that seeing Grant as an Oompa Loompa 'was a trip' after the teaser showed him trapped in a tiny glass jar.

Wonka 'felt like an opportunity to play a version of the character that is full of joy and optimism and hope' Chalamet said.

The screenplay will feature a selection of musical numbers and boasts an all-star cast including Rowan Atkinson, Olivia Colman, Keegan-Michael Key, Matt Lucas, Paterson Joseph, Sally Hawkins and more.

“Every good thing in this world started with a dream,” Wonka says in the trailer. “So you hold onto yours.”

Wonka is set to drop in cinemas on 15 December.
