Jodie Whittaker gives one piece of advice to 'phenomenal' new Doctor Who star

After four years as the 13th time lord in Doctor Who, Jodie Whittaker has shared a top tip for her upcoming replacement Ncuti Gatwa – and her advice is as humble as ever.

Sex Education star Gatwa is set to make his debut in the BBC series in 2023 and the actress told GamesRadar about hanging up her time-travelling boots.

Whittaker said about making the iconic role his own: “It’s yours for the taking. I’m certainly not giving that phenomenal actor any advice! He doesn’t need it from me: It’s yours to own, and you’ve earned it.”

She told The Big Issue about her last day on set: "Before they even finished checking the last take of the last scene, I was in bits. Even when we wrapped on a corridor we would always run down, or did the last costume checks with the person who’s stood by you through all this time. You know, even my last lateral flow test was emotional!"

The first-ever female Doctor said of her iconic role: "I got caught up in the euphoria of it all like everyone else. But that’s the beauty of this job. You get to hand it on. And you get to discover, like a fan, where it is going to go next. And now I will get to watch it without being stressed out about whether I nail a speech or if anyone can understand my accent. I’ll get to watch something I love from the safety of my living room."

Jodie shared: "I suppose I can’t take much credit for most of it, because that is down to the writing.

"But that was the overriding feeling of the Doctor I wanted to bring. And I feel I was given that opportunity, and that this show, at this time, represents everything I wanted it to be."

If that wasn't enough excitement, fans also have the 60th anniversary to celebrate which is welcoming back the tenth Doctor David Tennant and his one-time companion Donna (Catherine Tate) for a spine-tingling new adventure.

Jodie's final appearance is in Power of The Doctor which airs on Sunday October 23.
