Jay Blades and the team on BBC’s The Repair Shop were back tugging at the heartstrings of viewers everywhere overnight (Wednesday 5th October.)

Fans watching at home couldn’t stifle their sniffles when Kate Humphries entered the famous barn with a 1960s children's ride-on train in desperate need of some TLC.

Kate went on to say the train belonged to her dad, who had recently suffered from a stroke. She was hopeful that metal expert Dominic Chinea would help to restore the item to its former glory so her father could watch his grandchildren use it.

Unfortunately, soon after Dominic started to work on the train, Kate revealed her father had passed away.

The restoration continued and the train was as good as new, much to the delight of the Humphries family.

An emotional Kate said during the reveal: “I think it would have meant the world to dad. It's beautiful. It's absolutely beautiful.”

Kate’s daughter Agnes was with her during her return visit to the barn, and got to test out the train her grandad loved so much.

Fans were left in tears with the stunning restoration and heartwarming moment, with one writing on Twitter: “#TheRepairShop pulling on the heart strings again, the train was beautifully restored. Such a shame her Dad didn’t get to see it.”

Another wrote: “You’re all incredible, but that train repair was just stunning. My heart broke. When she said her dad had passed. What a lovely way to remember him #TheRepairShop.”

A third commented: “This train on the Repair Shop. The most adorable lovely little girl delighted with her Grandad’s train. Gorgeous. Great work. Top programme. All the feels.”

Recently, Dame Judi Dench had the same impact on viewers when a special live version of The Repair Shop sorted out a repair on her late husband’s watch.

The talented team worked on the timepiece that Dame Judi had originally given her husband Michael Williams in 1972. The couple were married for three decades until Michael died 2001.

The Repair Shop continues on Wednesdays at 8pm on BBC One.
